Cold Water Swimming
Cold water swimming to blow away those winter cobwebs!
Cold water swimming sessions are available on weekends, 9am-12noon, throughout winter*. You can expect temperatures to be chilly but we can’t guarantee specific temperatures so please keep an eye on our cold water group Facebook page on the weekend of your visit. Our pool is not just for those who regularly brave the cold, anyone can try it!
Cold water swimming is a fantastic way to blow off some cobwebs that can build up over those long winter months. CHALLENGE YOURSELF! You will not regret it and you may be surprised how great you feel for giving it a go. Warm up with porridge and a hot drink from the Tuck shop or in the cafe from 10am.
In partnership with Swim Coach Alec Richardson, we offer an “Introduction to Cold Water” session during the cold water sessions most weekends. Learn how to keep yourself safe and become part of the cold water swimming community. Find out more here.
In December we have our popsicle cold water gala, more details below.
* Up until 15th December, then from 4th January to 30th March.
Portishead Popsicle
The Popsicle is a cold water swimming gala where the emphasis is on putting the fun in fundraising. It happens every December before we heat the pool for Christmas. All profits from the event will help to support this community run open air pool, and we actively welcome swimmers who want to take on this challenge to raise funds for causes close to their own hearts. Spectators and volunteers are more than welcome to enjoy the fun too.
If you fancy a festive swimming challenge, a bit of friendly competition and a good excuse to soak in a hot tub, drink mulled wine and eat mince-pies then this is the event for you. In the past water temperatures for Portishead Popsicle have been as low as four degrees celsius - who knows what the weather will bring? Although it's a safe bet that it won't bring us warm!
Check out our social media for latest information and how to register. Tickets normally go on sale in early October and it normally sells out quickly!
